Following the current discussion here, just a few facts about the current case I described: there was No filter collapse or clogging, verified by dissection.
An alternate relief valve/circuit probably could have relieved the instantaneous pressure spike. Then again, a heated hanger solves a lot more problems than oil; such as frozen slush in the brakes, etc.
The system I use has been in service since the mid-90's on dozens of CJ's. However, cold weather operations are a challenge for any piston aircraft in my experience.
