Christopher,
You might add the 801 to that list because Alaska is a place that the
801 would
seem most suitable. Easy to access your place as well. Recently there
was an
801 partially done for sale, but you'll only have to search a bit for it.

Hello everyone,

Just joined the list. I am in Alaska and looking for a kit plane project to start on. I have over 2000 hours in various aircraft from the age of 16 (now 4Cool and am looking for something I can fly in and out of my 300 X 600 foot piece of property I now live on.

From what I have found so far the Zenith air CH 701 will do what I want but I ran across the Savannah knock off of this aircraft on the web last night which appears to be a better choice for me, although more expensive.

Any opinions pro or con between the two here?

Hi Chris,

I was looking at the Savannah last year. I went to the Arlington
airshow to look at the 701 and the Savannah. Shortly before the
Arlington airshow, a Savannah aircraft had a structural failure, A wing
collapsed,
and the aircraft crashed killing the pilot, and I believe a passenger (this
occured
in one of the Scandanavian countries if I recall correctly).

At the Arlington airshow, I asked the Savannah guy about a ride and
he stated that they "could not easily take the aircaft out of the
tent" and he therefore could not give me a ride. After that I asked
him about the accident and he said "you heard about that huh? I'm not
trying to hide anything from you". I believe at the time his aircraft
was grounded due to the aforementioned structural failure, but he was
never really clear on that.

I know that accidents happen, and it had been postulated that the aircraft
in question had not been properly cared for, not properly inspected, yadda,
yadda, yadda. I also heard there were sturctural and inspection related
changes that were made after the accident.

I just didn't get a good feeling from the dealer. Your mileage may vary.

I then went over to the Zenith display. I looked at the 601 and 701. I
talked
Nick in to a ride in the 601. I then told Michael that I wish they had a
quick
build 601. That was a VERY expensive wish, as he showed me the 601
quickbuild
that would be released at Oshkosh. He was willing to sell me one at
Arlington
though Smile

I'm not sure when (or if) the 750 is supposed to be released, but you might
ask about that.
It's a completed version of the 701 with a higher gross for the LSA market.

You also may ask about what the new CNC machine has changed in the 701. If
many of the
holes get drilled, it may be a good option.

Like I say, the Savannah may be a perfectly good aircraft, but I didn't have
a good feeling
after talking with the dealer. There are also a whole lot less people (like
all those on
this list) that would be able to help you if you run in to issue building
the plane.
