Hi all,
I have this question about the fuel flow needed for the M-14P 360HP engine.
What should be the free fuel flow value needed at the engine connection. ( Fuel Pump Inlet )
What is the maximum fuel consumption of the M-14P engine at take off power.
Thanks
Sylvain April

You can use AN-6 or -8 hose and fittings.

Is fuel consumption linear? I ask because I have a 400HP M14PF ... have not ever seen a chart for that engine ...
Thanks!

The 400 HP is developed above 880 MM manifold pressure (35") which you
typically only see on takeoff (approx. 1000 mm or 40"). The fuel flow
at the higher manifold pressure will of course increase by about 2-3
gallons per hour. However as soon as you back off after takeoff, fuel
consumption will be as shown on the 360 hp chart.

This will get you within a few gallons per hour for your fuel burn. On the Radial you can figure about .43 BSFC.
400 HP = somewhere around 28 gallons per hour

According to the M14P 360HP manuals, at WOT the 360 HP M14 consumes
between 37 and 41 GPH. The 400 HP M14 will consume between 43-44 GPH at
WOT. I have also proven these numbers to be accurate for the 360HP
engine using a fuel flow instrument.

It has been my experience that at high cruise I burn about 15 GPH.
Most new M-14Ps are dynoed at 378 or so but you don't usually fly them at 100%. At the factory allowed 103% you are probably around 400 hp so I don't think there is a lot of difference in burn between the 360 and 400 engines.
During an airshow routine I figured about 5 gallons for 14 minutes. 103% for takeoff until the tail is up and then back to 95% until 3 or 4 rolls depending on wind conditions and after a turnaround working the power from 95% in the vertical back to 85% or a bit less on a downline. That is with the big MT 3blade. This is after close to 2000 hours behind the M-14P and 500 airshows.
I would be interested to see if someone could burn 28GPH.
All of our planes use -6 run through the cockpit fuel selector. I don't remember the exact number but a -6 under low psi will flow quit a bit of fuel.
Hope this help,
Steve

Don't believe me, believe the M14P maintenance manual. The information
comes directly from it.
