I’m probably the last to know but it appears runwayfinder agreed to a flightprep license and is back in operation. Flightprep’s actions really pisses me off.

I worked for a software/web company a while back that ended up settling a patent lawsuit filed against it for $2M. The money was paid out of the proceeds from the sale of the company. The suing company did not make any money they just covered their costs. The lawyers combined from both sides netted somewhere between $3-4M in roughly a 2 year process. The patent clearly did not apply using the laws of common sense (and probably would not have held up in continuing the trial) but in the end was cheaper to settle than continue to fight it.

I hope that flight-un-prep withers and dies

I saw that when it happened. I thought too that it's unfortunate
that yet another person got the matter settled WITHOUT
winning a lawsuit, so now it can continue, and of course
without anyone knowing the details. Personally, I hope that
FlightPrep still got enough bad press that they just
dissolve. There are plenty of iPad and other EFB vendors
out there...it will be nice to see FlightPrep just
disappear as punishment. We don't need those types in our
hobby.

You know of course, that you are funneling money to these guys when you buy
products from ASA (Aviation Supplies & Academics, Inc), ASA publishes many
aviation books like the FAR/AIM 2010 on my bookshelf. Now I look for the
winged asa logo on anything I buy.
