Good question . . . and I have been meaning to write an update.
Dave has all of the parts (cooling exits ramps, cooling air inlets, landing light housings, and upper cowlings made. THe next step is making sides. He starts on the sides tomorrow, July 25, 2011.

OK dont worry about it then. I was more concerned with fire than weight.
Gonna have to find ways of lightening the tail anyway!

AK,
It's possible. The carbon fiber would add about $2000 to the cost of the cowling. I'd have to look into whether or not a burn test would be needed. Fiberglass is an insulator. It won't burn. It would be lighter though.

No worries.
I come from a cyclone (hurricane) town myself and fully understand. There is no rush for me.
But if he hasn't started perhaps we can make in carbon. I understand its lighter and less flammable??

Dave is back from helping his dad recover from the tornado in Oklahoma. He's starting on the prep of the tooling. He should be starting the cowlings soon. I hope. I have a lot of work for him. He's just short of money and help.

Hi Gary
Its Andrew Kerans ( snarek is kerans backwards).
Also you need the postcode 'zip' of 2615 after the state 'ACT' in our system because ACT is like DC and without the zip will get lost.
