Thinking  hard about getting an L-29 again.  Anyone know of good deals 

these days?  Fuel to fly it is the killer.  Sadly.

Plenty of good deals. Just bring money. I've got a nice Viper powered one for you. Or you can by a stock one. Yawn! Just kidding. You can buy my Viper for about $85k.

They wouldn't let the "re-engined" L-29's fly this year at the Reno Air Races due to the some installation "issues" on some of the Viper L-29's.  One of the pilots had a tail pipe break and torch the tail where there was significant damage to the aircraft at prs (pylon racing school)

You don't really want to know.

Low altitude in the tree tops 180-200 About the same as stock.

At 24,000' 90 gph. And it only takes several minutes to get to altitude! Much better than stock.

Plus you get about 100 miles more range.

Heather Penny was the pilot during PRS where the tail pipe failed and the  tail burn up.  I guess damage was extensive and rudder was damaged from  fire.

 So any plane with the Viper conversion that had been done by a  particular guy was not allowed to fly in the Reno Air Races.
