I guess in trying to conserve band width I committed
some sort of crime. The request was quite friendly. I did not know that Matt Dralle
appointed moderators for the kitfox-list email. All the years I was on the rocket
list and the RV and the Cessna 180 list I never saw a moderator on the Email List.

Bob, the origins of this mail list precede Matronics by many years. In fact the list
started on a text only list server prior to the existence of HTML browsers and even
HTML. When the public began to join in on the Internet and not just computer science
types many problems arose in USENET and in mail lists. Spam being just one of them.
Most people had only very slow modem connections, 2400 baud being hi-speed. In order
for the system to work, messages had to be kept short and anything not directly
related to the topic at hand had to be restricted. Arguing (flame wars), offensive
language had to be squelched immediately. This required an active moderator or two,
 sharing the job.

Since this group is by nature a skilled DIY people, interested in a common hobby, some
minimums of introduction and identification standards evolved. We like to know who
we're talking to, where they live and what their project is at the minimum. There have
been a number of mail servers in the past that were always donated. The moderator most
often was the owner of the mail server but sometimes not. The last move was to
Matronics and that choice was made because it looked like for quality of service it
would have to go commercial either being supported with advertising or voluntary
funding. Matt's Matronics was already set up for voluntary support and that was where
the group preferred to move. The group had two admins at the time of the move and they
moved along with the list to Matronics. Subsequently both retired from the job and Guy
Buchanon volunteered to continue the task. His intervention is almost never required
and no one that I can recall has ever been booted from the KF List since it has been
served by Matronics. The group has changed a bit over time and it no longer has any
childish flame wars so Guy only reminds people gently when we don't recognize someone,
he also might give help for people wanting to post pictures but overall it's really a
 pretty good group.

That said, I welcome you to the group and I'm absolutely certain that many others do too.

Ah yes. Good old Majodomo. started at CU by a Kitfoxer. I was one of
the first to sign up. My memory cells have the dates long forgotten ,
 but seems like 1995?
Then the Major spread all over for various subjects. Back in the AOL
days because we new nothing about what to do.
Now days the forum boards have almost taken over. Matt keeps his
lists working just fine with his custom mods. I tried to fix my
lists, but the SW was to much to learn another language. So my lists
just struggled untill someone finally created a Forum replacement. A
good thing and allowed build time.

Be happy to! Might be a while, we are getting ready for winter even though the temps are in the very high 80's this week............ we know it will change soon. Bob is changing the oil in our tractor today for plowing snow, just hope it doesn't start in October like last year. Was a very long winter!
