thanks for the info on demagnetizing the cables.

I tried to do just that but did not have the right equipment.

A friend had his mounted the same place mine was and did not have the problem. 

I started to go to S.S. cables also but it was easier to re-locate the compass.

That is the advantage of an experimental aircraft, we can do what     works. I happen to have the demagnitizers (multiple) so that was the     easy way for me.
