A couple of months back I decided that after almost 10 years it was time to update my laptop and get with the times...yet again. Bought the top of the line HP with a 17"monitor, Core I7 processor with 8 gig ram and 1.5 terabytes of disk. It is a real power house that rivals the best desktop for power and storage. Even better, I can hold it on my lap without getting 3rd degree burns. As a development platform for SQL based database systems it is a huge improvement. I can run the background database engines
Once again though I was reminded about why I have always resisted changing out my computer for the latest whiz-bang do it all system. While I think Windows 7 operating system is a order of magnatude improvement over the old XP operating system and the 64 bit processor is super fast, a whole lot of my old software would not transfer and run on the new machine. Among the more notable losses was my copy of AutoCad, Adobe Acrobat, and the old software that I used to maintain the Web Site. I have looked around and found some alternatives for the WED Site software but have found the learning curve to be steep especially when I don't really have much time to devote to the conversion or learning how to use it. So I must apologize for the lack of recent updates and can only promise that I haven't forgotten the web site and hope to get back to it soon.
