Yup - got two. One for me and one for the wife.
Oregon Aero electronics. They work great and cost less than 1/2 what I
could find an HGU for.

Hi Elma,
Not sure if they are worth the effort,
For one thing, weight, they look havy. also they look too tall, not a fit for our Yaks (you'll scratch the canopy).
Over three months I bought a fiber glass HGU-33 for 300$ in perfect usable condition. Also from Ebay I upgraded the cables to have a quick disconnect for an extra 45$.
If you need to get off the plane in a hurry you may not have time to unplug the headset, so get a quick disconnet from Gibsons and Barns (or e-bay).
The lightest helmet you can get is the HGU-55. But I really can't tell the difference between the 2 they are really light.
My 2 cents.

Thank you everybody for their
input on that matter, very much
appreciated.
It looks like those helmets are
a sort of surplus from the PLAAF
but I have the feeling they might
be cheap replicas and not suitable
for any flight operation.
Thank you again.
cheers

Sounds Good!
Just make sure you have proper canopy clearence and that you add a quick disconnect device.
The quick disconnect should be same side as your Headset plug, never have the cord across your chest or behind your neck, you don't want to have your neck snap because the comms are still connected while you try to getout of the plane in a rush.

Elmar,
I tried using one of these original PLAA helmets... (I still have it if
anyone is interested...) I am sure it can be retrofitted etc. but the main
issue I had with it was its weight... It is very heavy and very rigid (no
spreading flex when putting it on or pulling off your head..). As was
mentioned on the List before, the U.S Helmets (HGU 55, HGU-68 for example)
are much lighter and a lot easier to work with. The U.S Helmet's stock
insulation/sound attenuation is far superior also which will make the ANR
conversion effect a lot better. I use the HGU-68 as it's a comfortable one
hand operation to just the visor, the visor adjusting knob is offset to the
left of center allowing more clearance to the top of the canopy (as compared
to the older HGU-33). By the time you add the $79.00 shipping to the
$250.00 cost, you are just about the cost of a good U.S made helmet, ...and
your neck will appreciate it too (especially if you are over 50 and like to
pull some 'G'... ).
Just my two cents...
