I have been asked to consider bringing my L-29 to a Wings and Wheels display at the Teterboro airport outside NYC in June. For noise compliance the organizers want to know what stage (1,2 or 3) my aircraft is classified. Stage 1 aircraft are prohibited.

The best I can find, the L-29 is not classified and therefore either stage 1 (not applicable for under 75,000lbs) or exempted. does anyone know the correct answer to this question?

Jon

I also understand the Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 signed into law last week prohibits jets "that weigh 75,000 pounds or less and do not comply with quieter Stage 3 noise levels will be prohibited from flying beginning 2016. The new law gives operators of what FAA registration records indicate are more than 850 Stage 2 aircraft until the end of 2015 to modify their aircraft to meet new standards or discontinue their use in U.S. airspace over the contiguous 48 states.

This applies to privately owned jets. Does anyone know if the experimental warbirds are exempt from this?

I found this from 91.801:

"(c) Sections 91.851 through 91.877 of this subpart prescribe operating noise limits and related requirements that apply to any civil subsonic jet (turbojet) airplane (for which an airworthiness certificate other than an experimental certificate has been issued by the Administrator) with a maximum certificated takeoff weight of more than 75,000 pounds operating to or from an airport in the 48 contiguous United States and the District of Columbia under this part, parts 121, 125, 129, or 135 of this chapter on and after September 25, 1991."

Doesn't this mean the noise requirements do not apply to "experimental" exhibition operating regardless of weight?
