 Gentlepeople,

A few months ago someone out on our lists mentioned that they were using som
e louvered vents in an aid to cooling their Jabiru installation. =C2-I wou
ld be interested to see if anyone has some anecdotal or actual experience wi
th utilizing louvered vents on the bottom of a cowl in an effort to aid and
 imnprove engine cooling.

In my case I have a Jab3300 powered Zentith Zodiac in which I'm pretty much
dialed into in terms of cooling. =C2-However, I am also a builder of a Jab
3300 powered Europa Classic Monowheel and due to the fact =C2-that the fo
otwells and the main landing gear truncate the bottom opening of the cowl ma
king a clean and big enough exit a bit "messy".
 =C2-
I am curious to see if a set of vented louvers running parallel and under ea
ch cylinder would create enough pull to enhance cooling?=C2-(Bonanzas have
em') =C2-Do the experts think I might have some luck with just such an in
 stallation?
 =C2-
Thanks for your time and consderation.

 Jeff....

Good afternoon. I was involved with the cooling louvers discussion and have
sold several sets to zenith aircraft builders and owners.

Typically, cooling louvers will decrease your cht temperatures by 20-35 degr
ees and oil temperatures 10-15 degrees, depending on aircraft type and insta
 llation.

The louver placement can make a big difference in actual efficiency. But we
have found them to be a very efficient, lightweight and cost effective meth
od to help with high temperatures.

A lot of rv aircraft use them and have even better results due to the higher
airspeed. I have a set in a 701 with a corvair engine and he is reporting a
  20-25 degree drop in cht.

If you are interested, they can be found at

 http://aircraftspecialty.com/zenithproducts.html

We manufacture them in house to keep costs low and also to ensure quality.
I am an aircraft builder and am picky about what I put on my airplane, and f
ollow through with that mindset for our customers.

 Have a great day
 Steve

 Hi Jeff,

I used louvers under my belly radiator installation, did a tissue test
to proof the negative draft and it worked really well.

No major numbers, but about a 5 degree improvement overall for radiator
 cooling.
