				Putting the transponder antenna on the belly behind the seats as worked 
 well for me.  One wants to avoid a "blind" area from the main gear as much 
 as possible (but one is transmitting downwards and not just sideways). 
 Personally, I'm much more interested in how an instrument is actually 
 working than a bunch of certification details.  At a not-too-busy airport, 
 and at a "quiet" time, tower people have ALWAYS been willing to help me 
 with telling me my transponder height.  When I was having occasional 
 serious noise on my ICOM radio transmissions and receptions (occasional is 
 the worst kind because you don't have a constant signal to work with; it 
 turned out to be noise put onto the power bus by the Becker transponder 
 power supply - the cure was a good noise filter on the power input to the 
 ICOM), again the tower people were ALWAYS willing to tell me what they 
 were hearing.  These guys have invariably been helpful.
