All-
The cordless drill that my wife paid way too much for a Christmas =
present many years ago died tonight. Miserable POS only drilled around =
3000 holes and drove around 500 screws.
No one has a replacement on sale other than HF. 18v with 2 batteries =
for less than $30. Didn't want to buy Chinese, then I looked at the =
labels on my Sears. You guessed it.
Anyone know where to buy the best Chinese? (Other than Won Chung =
Los)
Bill

I bought a reconditioned Skill C/D from HF..it was total junk.

About the cheapest decent quality drill with a smart charger (switches
off so you don't cook the battery) was the Paanasonic...A green and
black thing with space age styling.

The 12V is pretty compact and came with a 12V flashlight (which really
is very useful believ it or not). Has a two speed gearbox for hi torque
driving of screws.

Built half an RV with it and for $80 (from Jerry's) its been really
great.

My humble and widely ignored opinion only......

I got tired of the rip off of paying more for a replacement batterey than
the entire drill, charger and two batteries cost originally. I decided to
get some commonality working in my favor. I bought a Dewalt 1/2" 18 volt
drill with 2 batteries and a charger. Then I saw a package deal on six
Dewalt tools plus 2 more batteries and another charger that included a mail
in offer for one more tool of my choice. Then I picked up a couple more
tools individually later on, all of which use the same 18 volt extended life
batteries. I now have virtually all the cordless tools I want, plus six
batteries and two chargers so that I'm never down, even on a big project.
The batteries are pricey but not robbery and are perpetually available
online on Ebay and elsewhwere. Cordless drills offer slow speed ranges that
are nice for some airplane building operations, the 1/2" drills have plenty
enough torque and they don't gobble up a lot of SCFM fom a small air
compressor that runs the chip blower and rivet gun satisfactorily.

If you believe that you will continue to be able to buy batteries for the
Chinese tools, go for it. I like the Dewalt tools.

Think you'd better open up your DeWalt Batteries. Most of the cells will be
Pansonic or some other battery cell from the eastern rim... probably China.
One can either go to a place like Batteries Plus and have them replaced or
Harbor Freight where they are currently $9.95. Your DeWalt will probably
bounce better than the HF models. That is their big advantage.
