Hi Guys,

My name is Alfonz and I’m in the process of buying one nice pretty fresh after OH L-29 here in Czech Republic. I was doing some research for spares and found a guy who has got seriously biggest stock of parts I have ever seen. Most of it brand new with original certificates for reasonable prices. Does not speak English only Czech and Russian so if some bits are needed, just let me know. I’m happy to help.

All the best.

Hello Alfonz,
I have a flying L-29 in the state of Viriginia in the USA and could use some fuel filters for the M701 engine. Also, could use a front cockpit brake cable (runs from brake handle to the brake valve), and possibly a front wind screen. If you could let me know if these are available and the cost I would apprciate it. Contact me skyking76t(at)verizon.net (skyking76t(at)verizon.net)
Thanks,
Tony

Alfonz,

I have many friends that speak Russian. Would love to talk to this guy for parts. Do you have his contact information?

I am looking for consumables and all kinds of miscellaneous parts. Nothing in particular but highest on my list is fuel pumps, hydraulic pumps, ect. Prices need to be right. Where are you getting your parts and engines from?

I am suggesting caution with this previous post for L29 parts in Czech Rep. I have been there a lot and I have not found any supplies of large stock and reasonable prices. For the most part, the parts are gone. Odds and ends left and very high prices. I would like to think that this is real but we will have to see. The company from the email address I have heard of . Time will tell

The last major spares for L29 held in Czech republic were sold off together with 3 complete aircraft in 2004. The 3 aircraft had been earmarked for modernisation back in the 90's - the Czechs hoped to win orders from the many air forces operating the L29 and give them a new lease on life. The 3 aircraft underwent full factory airfram overhauls, and had more modern avionics fitted and some systems upgrades.

The market response was inadequate, and the 3 aircraft and spares were sold. I bought the lot. Still have my L29, now registered in SA as ZU-KGB, serial 4902, the last acquired by Czech's and one of the last built.

Still have spares, a whole big container full. Never got around to cataloguing everything. A lot of stuff takes up space and will probably never get used - such as brand new control surfaces for flaps, ailerons, tailplanes. Still have a couple rudders, no elevators. Have a couple canopies left, hydraulic pump, lots of odd parts. A lot of it would be great for a rebuild but probably of no value for most people as its not consumables.

A few people on this list know me - I have shipped a number of items to people, some on the honour system and at my cost- for example, to chaps in Denmark, on the basis when next I am there I get a ride in their L29. Also sold some stuff.

Regards from sunny South Africa
Jorgen

Hi Jon,

You mentioned you were looking for parts and a overhauled M701 engine.

I have a 40' container of factory overhauled zero time M701-500engines with log books, tail pipes and nozzles coming into port on the West Coast USA next week.

Contact me off list

Scott,

Do you have any other stuff coming in? Did you end up keeping your -29 after the start of the '08/'09 fuel crisis?

Hi Frank,

I sold my L-29 because I could see the fuel prices in the future increasing to a financially unsustainable level where the prices would never be back to a point that would make it viable to fly the L-29. At the same time, I also had access to two different L-39's to fly as much as I wanted. Just add fuel...., so there was little sense in keeping my L-29.
If I was going to burn 180 gallons an hour +/-, the L-39 was a lot more fun to fly,, but still the expense of the fuel was too high, so I backed off of flying those. Eventually one L-39 was sold. The other L-39 was owned by a good friend of mine and I was able to facilitate this L-39 being moved to down to California, so another L-29 buddy, Pete, could have the benefit of flying an L-39 while at the same time helping the owner.
So, now the only time I fly a jet is for my job with the airlines.
I've down sized to a Lancair 360 and a J-3 Cub and so I can fly all year with those two aircraft and not burn as much as one I would in an hour in the L-29/L-39. Smile

As far as your other question about parts and M701 overhauled zero time engines, go ahead and email me off list at SD737(at)aol.com (SD737(at)aol.com)

Thanks,
Scott

Ok thanks Scott. I'll try but I often have no luck sending PM's to the USA.

I'll send right after this so if nothing arrives please let me know.

For what it's worth;

I'll just throw this out there, thanks to our President, ALL former military "Stuff", engines, require an
Export license/permit. I sold an engine to Australia, 1 year ago, it was going to cost over $3500 for the license.
Just for one engine. Trust me, I tried to get around that for months. I even asked an exporter who had a
license and that didn't work.

yes.  I cant even import brass (for loading ammo) from the US anymore, without hassle and expense that makes it non-viable.  Europe must be smiling...

We are fortunate that importing historically has been easier than exporting for us here in USA. Neither is easy or for amateurs.  The next time you wish to buy a part for your L-29, Yak or whatever, think what that person went through to be able to provide that part.
I don’t think it is any surprise to a lot of us, that these new laws and procedures initiated under the  umbrellas of security are slowly eroding are freedoms and rights with regard to these airplanes.   Go fly it and enjoy while you can !

Hi Bill,

Yep, not only on exporting these engines, but the same deal whether it be importing/exporting. AND the EPA now has gotten involved with the Class of the engine and want to levy a stiff use fee/penalty for these engines.  A BIG surprise as you say thanks to our president!

Group,

When I purchased my Yak-52, I said that eventually it would be cheaper to build replacement parts here. I think the same thing will happen with the L-29. When parts are unavailable, someone will start to rebuild them. It will drive up the cost of operating your aircraft, but some will pay the extra cost to continue flying.

It will be like operating an F-86, F-100 (there are several flying, and I have spare parts if you need them), ME-262, F-4 or Mirage.

Good Luck
John Fischer
