 Hey Guys:

I ordered and received the P-Tough PT-1230 PC label printer.

My cost, Plus Tax, Plus Shipping was $12.82

 It arrived in three days.

It requires 6ea, AAA batteries or the optional power supply. Lucky me - I have a draw of power supplies.

The basic software comes built in.

You can also DOWNLOAD a more sophisticated software package, which I did.

The basic package is off and running in 15 seconds.

The sophisticated software package, well, I'm still trying to figure that one out. Three days later ;-(

It did not recognize the label printer, for some reason it locked onto my HP desktop printer.

I know of the Control Panel set up for choosing primary printer, maybe that has to be modified for a secondary printer?

The reason why I am trying the upgraded software is I want to be able to print two rows on the same label.

I have not been able to do that with the basic software as yet.

AND it also gives you control of FONTS, SIZE and TAPE LENGTH. <-- That is a COST savings with the tape lengths.

One other very nice feature of this unit is that it connects via a USB cable.

That with the battery supply a tablet or laptop, you can work right in the plane.

On panel labeling I use a BLACK LABEL with WHITE lettering - On this the price is not cheap... $19 to $22 per 1/2" wide cartage

Oh! The P-Touch does handle sizes from 9/64" to 1/2" wide.

NO - It is a two part label that must fit the printer.  No way to put heat shrink tubing in the printer.BUT - If you use the small label on a big enough wire - You may be able to slide it under the CLEAR heat shrink tubing.

What happens to the thermal label when you apply heat to the heat shrink tubing?

I don't know.  I never had the need to know.  But you bring up a good point... Too much heat should discolor the tape.  How about running a test and posting your findings to the Team.

I cannot do a test, as I do not have anything that uses thermal paper for printing. I do know that many of my thermal receipts and faxes are no longer readable.

				Yea, Kevin -

Aren't the GOVERNMENT toll receipts great.  They want you to keep a record for taxes but just as you would expect they print everything in vanishing ink.
The labels are "made of stunner stuff", they can take quite a bit more than toll receipts... I don't know if it is the heat OR the UV that causes the ink to disappear.  Maybe you can do a test on that?

I don't know.  I never had the need to know.  But you bring up a good point... Too much heat should discolor the tape.  How about running a test and posting your findings to the Team.

NO - It is a two part label that must fit the printer.  No way to put heat shrink tubing in the printer. BUT - If you use the small label on a big enough wire - You may be able to slide it under the CLEAR heat shrink tubing.

 Will it do heat-shrink tubing?

I don't think it's UV. The fuel tank filler opening placards on my plane are black on white P-Touch labels and the print did not fade after being tied down outside since last February. Don't know about engine compartment heat, but they probably also saw well over 100 degrees F from the direct sun for many hours during the summer heat on days when my tanks were low in fuel. They seem pretty robust.
