Hello everyone!!

Dennis Frisone here in Boerne, Texas building a KIS TR-4 and have a question for anyone with knowledge about nose gear.

I am having Lyle Hendricks fabricate a nose gear for me and I need to purchase the interior strut – can anyone point me in the right direction?? Where can I purchase??

Thanks for your help in advance

I believe an automotive strut is used in the TR4.  I can't be more specific as I've never removed mine.  Didn't know anyone besides me and Bob Reed were still building, albeit very slowly.

For the caster type nose gear, the springs are die springs from McMaster.com. The shock is from Pep Boys and it needs an extension you make from threaded rod and a coupler nut that can also be bought from McMaster. Now the big questions are the part numbers...

What type of nose gear are you getting? Are there any steerable nose gears out in the field?

Mark

Thanks to all of you who responded to my call for help. Much appreciated. The nose gear that I’m building is a castor type and the information I received from Mark will help tremendously.

If anyone knows what the travel of the strut is – this will also help.

Thanks again,
Dennis

Hello Dennis, If you will go to the Matronics KIS list archive search and search for “strut” and look for Msg#20170 dated Dec 06, 2007 From Rich Trickel you will see what he had to say about the TR 4 nose landing gear shock absorber strut.

'O C' Baker says "The best investment you can make is the effort to gather and understand information."

PS: Time to acknowledge once again the tremendous debt that we owe to both Rich for all of his efforts on our behalf and the great resource that the Matronics lists are for us.
