All,

Looking for a replacement rear cockpit gear selector for a yak52.
Current one has begun to cause problems with air leakage, and exercise of it has a limited fault curing success rate.
I can confirm this is the selector at fault, and not a ram seal problem feeding back through the selector.
Any bright ideas considered, but my understanding is that there are no seals inside it, just machined plates with holes positioned for selection purposes.
So... If anyone has a GOOD one they are willing to part with, please contact me off list.
I am in the uk.

Regards

I think M14P, Inc. can overhaul them. Call Jill at 928-681-4400

Fabricate a bypass (there are 3 sets of "in's and out's. ie: 6 fittings
on the rear selector) and eliminate it completely from the system. It
is totally unnecessary and only another point of failure due to lack of
use as many people have found out. Photo attached is of a Yak 52
without a rear gear selector.

I have done several hundred hours of instructing in the 52....checkouts, acro training, and spin training. I am unwilling to work in a rear cockpit in which the rear gear selector has been blocked off in neutral, removed or otherwise emasculated.

My choice, of course. But the airplane was designed to be fully flyable by an IP in the rear seat...and that's the way I like it to be. YMMV

Roger, I have always wondered how that works, and if you have time
possibly you can educate me. You mentioned you have several hundred
hours instructing in the YAK-52. Do you charge to instruct in other
owners YAK-52's, or do you rent your own aircraft out?

Mark

Hi Mark,

The answer to both the questions you posed is no. I never charged for the training I did. I also didn't rent my 52. On occasion, when the new guys airplane was far away, he would airline it to here (San Diego area) and we would use my airplane....but no rent. Fuel for the plane and lunch for me...that always worked.

I so much enjoyed flying the airplane that I thought it made sense to "spread the wealth" and help others enjoy their Yaks. Basic checkouts were kind of tiresome....but when one stirred up a brew of basic checkout/basic acro/spin training....and pretty soon the student found himself doing inverted spins....and liking it!....now that was fun.
