I know it's not called a turn buckle. For the life of me I can't think of the name. I need the bent piece ASAP.

The bent part is the tang half of a clevis fastener. The pin that connects it to the fork half of the clevis is a clevis pin.

They are called "Ball End Fittings" or "End Ball Fittings"  I have seen them called either way. They are either MALE or FEMALE.  They are either LEFT or RIGHT hand threads.  They are in the ACS catalog.  Your bent piece is a MALE fitting and looks to be RIGHT handed.  Measure the Max Diameter and get a thread count for proper size.

Its' a male Rod End. True Flight have them under p/n TAES501-3, but if you go that route you will need two thin AN960 washer to go either side of the ball to fit the fork. For a direct replacement with correct ball width try an Aurora GMW-4M-470 same as the original Heims F44-14M. Spruce has them at

Apparently they go under both names (rod end appearing and ball end fitting):
I found this description which specifically describes these fittings and their role in bellcrank/control horn operation:

Ball end fittings are those swivel fittings used extensively in Control Systems, flight control systems in particular. They consist of a ball with flats opposite each other, encased in a ball housing which has some form of threaded end to attach to pushrods and cables. A hole through the ball accommodates a bolt which attaches the swivelling ball assembly to a bellcrank, control horn etc. The thickness of the ball between the flats is generally greater than the housing which allows the bolt/nut to be tightened on the ball without binding on the housing.
But I can only find them at suppliers under the name "rod end bearings", as Ian notes.
Here's an explanation of a potential washer caution if the bolt end securing the ball is small enough to pass through the ball housing should the ball be dislodged:

A problem occurs if the ball/housing wear or become distorted sufficiently in service to allow the ball to escape containment in the housing: the ball can fall out. Generally, the diameter of the hole in the housing is greater than the bolt head and under these conditions, the bolt head, although still tight on the ball and attached to the other part of the assembly passes through the housing allowing the connection to fall apart disconnecting the control. The cure is to have a large washer under the bolt/nut which will not pass through the hole left by the ball.

In many cases, a normal washer will also pass through the hole, so a washer with a larger outside diameter than normal is required. These washers are available and are called "penny washers".

It is strongly recommended that all operators and builders check all ball ends to ensure penny washers are in place or to at least ensure that the existing washer or bolt/nut are large enough not to pass through the housings in the event that a condition occurs to allow the ball to escape retention in the housing.I don't know if this applies in the Tiger's case; I haven't looked at the diagram. But it's something I wasn't aware if before and seems like a good thing to remember. Asymmetrical flaps can be scary!

Why, do you suppose, doesn't True Flight use the correct part? Did they change the whole assembly? If so, Why?

First, you need to get you a ACS catalog .... lots of info other than parts for sale.
Go to the ACS website and search on 'catalog' .... scroll down the page and download the PDF.

I'm guessing that you probably have a 1/4-28 male thread with #4 bolt through the ball .... it's an F44-14M (page 137)
If that's not it .... lemme know what the dimensions are.
