I have a wing tip nav antenna kit from Vans. This has a strip of copper foil and a short coax to connect to the antenna. One end comes terminated with a BNC connector but the other end must be connected to the foil but there is no guidance. My thoughts are that I must strip back the covering and shielding and solder the center wire to the end of the foil.

Is this the correct method? If so, how much of the shield should I trim back?
