On the subject of batteries ....
I mentioned previously that I have used both gell cell and AGM types with good success, but that you need to keep an eye on them and replace them before they go bad... or else. I've also advised using the Battery Minder type charger for these types of Lead Acid batteries.
Bill von Helmolt (GM of Berkut Engineering and Design Inc.) recently reminded me of yet a third type, made by Aerovoltz. http://aerovoltz.com/
These are Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, are much lighter, and have a ton of features that are very attractive for aircraft use. They last much longer in a "static" state (I.E. Just sitting around doing nothing). They do not need "Battery Minder" type chargers that put a 3 Mhz pulse into the battery to break down sulfation, in fact chargers of this type are prohibited when using Lithium Iron Phosphate battery types.
Bill has been running them over 9 months now in a YAK-50 with the B&C charging system and no problems at all.
They sure seem like something we should look into. That said, I have no personal experience with Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries *AT ALL*, but they are intriguing to be sure.

I'm using Odyssey batteries (AGM type) since two years and I am quite
happy with them.
