Does this implementation negate the "whistle slot
used to avoid blockages of the crankcase vent?"

The whistle slot is there to mainly prevent freezing of the end of the breather pipe. Won't happen if it ends in the hot exhaust system, I would think... But you can leave a whistle slot in the pipe anyway if it makes you feel better...
