				Well folks I have had great help in my search. Scott,  thanks for introducing me to the truly remarkable www.matweb.com , all and more that you  need to know about all kinds of materials. The best bit is the search engine. I  put in the specific properties that I needed for the 4340 and it gave me a  recipe for 4140 that does the same thing, awesome.
   
  Also I found the following http://www.russelmetals.com/pdf/english/service/pdf_catalogue/Section_14_-_Weights_and_Useful_Data.pdf which  is a 26 page guide great to keep in the hanger.
   
  Suggestions on the best way to heat to just over 1575  deg F welcome.

    Thanks for that I called them yesterday and they only    have larger sizes available. .1 and up. For reference this is the steel used    for undercarriage units also.
