I guess that is a matter of perception.. ask a beaver driver if they think the extra 100 pounds is worth it..you would be suprised what they say..but his has now been beat to death..bottom line, you fly yours however you have to to make yourself comfortable and I will fly mine how I want. I like to be safe, but I also like to be realistic.

I understand and agree. One of the reasons I mentioned it is an experience I
had while working as an SOR (load planner for United Airlines) in a previous
life. I missed 1000 lbs in the Manual Pit - under the horizontal
stabillizer - as far aft as you can go W&B wise. It didn't get on the
manifest and was not factored into the MAC for trim settings on takeoff. I
talked to a pilot later and he laughed and told me that a tap of the trim
switch on the stick was all it would take to correct the trim. These things
fly at over 800,000 and my thousand pounds was less than .2% of the gross
wt.

1000 lbs that far aft in most other airplanes would take a lot more than a
tap on the elevator trim switch. I was just questioning the absolute number
rather than the concept.

I did some checking today.. My experience was that when I put the PA18 or 12 or 20 on EDO 2000's I got a 100 pound gross increase. I talked to a part 135 operator today who has cubs, beavers and otters 180s 206 etc, and he said it depended on the float manufacture and the plane. Some give you the weight of the float minus the weight of the fixed gear, some give you the full weight of the float system, some are a fixed number.... Regaurdless, I have full lotus for my Avid and they say 100# on the full lotus forum and stated that the floats actually create 85-90% of their weight in lift. I am not going to be to bashfull about uping my gross 100# or what ever I can get of the water...loaded WITHIN the CG range.
