I came across this problem and finally found the fix and thought I would share my fix. I always had noise in my headsets and had a problem with the temp guage for the water, oil and cylinder head always went higher when the strobes where on and if the charging system was on. I had noise in the headsets from the charging system, varied when the throttle was changed. I got into my wire diagram from the repair manual and found that the guages were grounded at the regulator case. I went and pulled the cowling and looked at this point of connection, and yes the ground for the guages were at the case of the regulator, then I looked at the install of the regulator, the clamps to hold the regulator had rubber insulation, now how can this have a ground. I made up a wire and connected it to the case and to the ground block that went direct to the battery negative. Walla, a problem that I always had with this airplane was gone, way cool. No more noise in the headsets, the guages run consistant, no over reading. I've also noticed that the charging system works all the time, I also had trouble with the charging system cutting out.
hope this helps somebody.

Thanks for this Mike. I've got my regulator case grounded
via the airframe but a direct ground to the grounding block might be
a lot better.
