Prop Strike
In reply to John Graham, I would reiterate what I have previously said, and that is that anyone who continues to fly with M14P after anything worse than a GENTLE prop-strike has little sense of self-preservation.
The formal instructions from Russia are that ANY prop strike MUST result in a total engine strip and check.
My PERSONAL view is that if the engine is idling, and does not stop, and only two / three inches are lost from the propeller, it is unlikely that any damage would have occurred.
If however the prop has shattered, I honestly believe the engine is time-bomb. One of our customers had a relatively gentle prop-strike - at idle; changed the prop and continued to fly. A few hours later, while taxiing-in from an aerobatic sequence, the gearbox broke and the engine locked solid. Even at idle it cracked two engine-mounts, and under full power the engine would have come straight out of the aircraft.
Having said all that if it has flown over 300 hours, I doubt if it is going to break now!
