So, who's going to Triple Tree?
Need something to do this weekend? Triple Tree Airdrome (SC00) is one of the most unique venues you will find. Where else will you find a 7000 foot long grass strip! And its as smooth as a putting green!
The field is just 15 miles south of Spartanburg Downtown airport. Check it out on AirNav:
http://airnav.com/airport/SC00
A schedule of events:
http://www.tripletreeaerodrome.com/
Arrival procedures:
http://www.tripletreeaerodrome.com/faq/index.php?faq=20070815132808991
Kathy and I are planning to arrive about 5 PM on Friday and attend the BBQ dinner and see the blue grass band. We will camp overnight and spend most of Saturday at the fly-in. TeamRV will be doing several training/practice formation flights in preparation for our upcoming airshow at Augusta (Oct 20-21).
If you don't fly-in this might be a great destination for a bike ride or car trip on Saturday or Sunday! Hope to see some of you there.

I plan to head over today as well and be there for Saturday.
I think that Saturday is the LAST day.
It would be REALLY NICE to see a LOT of RV's there!

Watch out the coordinates on their web site are wrong. Use AIRNAV SC00.

Leave it to Cappy to catch an error in the coordinates inside joke!
Wish we could be there, but Miriam has to work tomorrow and I'm hosting a skeet shoot on the farm for the guys at church as well. Sounds like a ton of fun, and a runway to make me ashamed of this one.
Not sure who they are, but I say, "Free the Thedford Three!" anyhow. I'm certain they're innocent.

Must be a current event I missed; if it ain't discussed here, odds are I don't know it's going on...
Was this a weather-related tragedy on the way home from Yellowstone. perhaps? One that could have been averted by following a certain intrepid RV-6A down south to the Canyon?? Just guessing.

This is from Google:
"Thomas County Airport is located one mile south of Thedford, Nebraska, in Thomas County. Thedford has a population of 231. The 591-acre airport opened in 1998. The primary runway, Runway 11/29, is an asphalt runway measuring 3,600 feet in length and 50 feet in width. There are three aircraft based there."
I guess James has one of his airplanes based there. What else could it be!

Stormy and Smokey, you are BOTH "on the money!".
Thedford, NE (population 250 we were told, with a county population of 500) is where Cappy, his lovely bride and I spent a wonderful few days getting to know the local population.
It could have been averted if we had gone down the canyon yes Stormy, or if we had backtracked as we came out. But we were on an important mission and due to a technical difficulty with the local gas pumps, we got delayed until the weather caught us! The way I put it, we were either 5 minutes from being "in the clear" or 4 minutes from being headlines. So we turned around and spent some time with the nice, accommodating folks in Thedford ... especially Roy and his wonderful wife.
The hangar was built for three planes it seemed and there were actually 4 in there (including a 140 kinda hanging by the tail). We were able with the kind assistance of Roy, to get AND ADDITIONAL 2(!) airplanes (RV8 and RV6) in there to avoid the forecasted hailstorm! So, yes Smokey, for a while 20% of the flying airplanes hangared at Thedford belonged to me.
We had a nice time .. it just took us three days to get home.
The story is much longer and one day I might write it up.

I for one would enjoy reading the account, James. You're the man to write it up. GO for it.
-Stormy, who had a similar adventure getting out of Clinton, OK on his own way home that week...
