For anyone interested, I just re-checked my valve lash (prior to
heading to Kitty Hawk this weekend), and they were all .008"---.010".

A bit of history: I changed the rocker arm bushings after the
originals "went South" at 273 hours. I installed brass bushings with
no teflon coating. I checked and re-set the lash/clearance 15 hours
after the bushing replacement, and now have 420 hours total on the
engine. Prior to changing the bushings, the valve lash would always
increase...up to .016" on some of the valves, due to the bushing
material being worn away. I felt comfortable enough with my
modification that I flew from Michigan to California and back, to New
 York and back, Oshkosh, etc.

I think there was a similar problem with the cam gear drive on the old GM
 302. Teflon wear caused the cams to "go bad"

Great work Lynn. Have you posted details of the brass bushes? Is this the
 J3300 or 2200?

Yes, I posted the details back in mid-May on this list. In fact, you
were one of the first people to respond to my posting about rocker
shaft bushing problems. I just looked at my (saved) inbox, and it was
May 8 when I first mentioned the problem. It was a followup to
someone mentioning that the list was slow, and "was there anybody out
 there?"
Then the title got changed to cam shaft bearings somehow, and then I
changed it to "new rocker arm bushings in" when I described how I did
it on May 11, 2007. If you can't find it, I'll forward it to you,
 Peter....mine is the 2200A engine...serial # 2062, just a few numbers
before they switched to "wet" lifters.

I also fitted a set of Oilite bushes to a 2200 ser No 550. The engine had only run for approx 30hrs from new!. The original teflon bushes were well marked/worn.. ED
