Anyone know how to increase the fuel flow to my IO-360 during takeoff?
I've been all over the internet on this one and can't find much info on the
subject. I am flowing 16.9 gph on takeoff at full power but it is not
enough to keep my egt and cht numbers down (I'm seeing 1450 egt on
takeoff). I'd like to bump my takeoff fuel flow up to around 18 gallons.
According to John Deakin's formula, 16.9 gph is about right for 180 hp, but
my engine is pumped up a little and needs more gas, I think. I have to
throttle back to cool it down and climb at fairly high indicated airspeeds
to keep it there. At cruise, all is well.
Is the control for this on the fuel throttle body or somewhere else?

Lee, my understanding is FF is directly related to HP. Don't know what you mean by pumped up? How much etc?
I would look into the mixture setting it may be running to lean and causing the problem. Look for the rich/lean adjustment.

You didn't mention which fuel control you have. I have a Airflow
Performance and there is a main jet that you can remove and put in a larger
size. They also handle Bendix controllers.

Lee,
You are right in following John Deakin's advise.
I have a carb on my 0-360 A1A.......
I have installed the enrichment kit
AND drilled the jet larger.......it really brought the temps down.
The FF on TO is more connected to the induction system than HP....I think.
The published numbers in the POH's are very misleading as they are done for OEM installs.
Each setup should be tweaked, but I don't see many people talking about it.
Good Luck

Bob,
I would like to learn more about the enrichment kit you refer to. I have an O-360 A1A, carburetor, high compression pistons and LASAR ign. with C/S prop.
