Dale,
This is what I have learned:
The enrichment kit is sold to convert the M4-5 10-3878 carb to act more like
it's richer brother M4-5 10-4164
The kits part number is 666-660.........I know...kinda weird number huh?
it costs about 250.00 list is 292.91 sell for 234.32 plus freight....
Precision Airmotive produces the kit, and has been since 1962 to fix a problem
on Mooneys I was told.
You can't buy direct from Precision so you have to go thru a dealer.
I used Penn Yan Aero iin NY 800-727-7230 315-536-2333
The tech at PennYan Aero offered to install the kit for me for about 100.00
Labor plus freight obviously. I figured, in for a penny, in for a pound,
so I might as well learn from this one too.
Any good A&P should easily be able to follow directions and install the kit.
There is more work involved in removing the carb and reinstalling it than the actual
work installing the kit, but it does involve removing the float and reinstalling it.
Interesting note...the main jet nozzel in the new kit was not measurably larger.
it did have a bushing that reduced the amount of air thru one of the carb body passages.
So I'm assuming (we know what that means) the enrichment is acheived by reducing air
flow rather than just putting in a larger main jet, which is what you would expect.
The original main jet and the jet in the enrichment kit were different part numbers although
I couldn't see a difference. The fuel flow did change however, because my temps lowered.

If you have cooling problems or think you have, read John Deakins articles on AVWeb.
http://www.avweb.com/news/pelican/182176-1.html
This is assuming (here we go again) that you have checked obvious things like baffeling
etc, already!

Now, what carb do you have installed? if it is the 10-3878 then you will need the kit.
if you have the richer carb 10-4164 then you are already better off but probably need more
fuel at TO. I did this by drilling the main jet out. Yes, you have to take the carb off again,
if you took it off to install the kit.

Here is a link to an article on VAF by Jon Foy:
http://www.vansairforce.net/articles/highcylinderheadtemps.htm
He had Lasar ignition too, and he seemed to blame his temps on the ignition system.
He doesn't give a lot if detailed info so I can't comment on his install.
I have 2 slick mags for the record.

The kit.....for the record is just a small bag of parts.
a main jet.
an idle jet.
a bushing.
a drill bit to help install the bushing if you have an older carb.
a new bowl gasket.
a new ltab locking washer for under the main jet.
a small fiber O ring to go under the tip of the main jet.
a decal and 2 pages of very vague instructions for 1962 (I guess people were smarter then)
Thats it!
It does not include new tab lock washers for under the bowl screws.
It does not include a new carb to induction system gasket.

Is this the info you were looking for ?
I can go into more detail if you wish.
You will enjoy John Dekin's articles.
Happy to help.
Regards,
Bob Martin

I would like to learn more about the enrichment kit you refer to. I have an O-360 A1A, carburetor, high compression pistons and LASAR ign. with C/S prop.

Thanks Bob. I have a copy of Deakin's article in my engine file. I'll read it again. I don't think I have a over heating problem but want to stay up with this issue.
