I have a 912 UL (non-certified) engine S/N 4406269 in my Allegro 2000. In reading the Rotax Operator’s Manual there are four “configurations” of this engine. Configurations 1, 2, 3, and 4. Configuration is no longer available and was replaced by configuration 2. So there are actually only three configurations as noted in the manual, 2, 3, and 4. From the descriptions of configurations 3 and 4 they are for engines with constant speed propellers that have hydraulic governors. Therefore, this leaves only one configuration for those of us with “fixed” pitch props; configuration 2. The manual further states that the gearbox overload clutch is only installed on 912 UL (non-certified) engines that are of configuration 3. Therefore we who have 912 UL engines with fixed pitch props do not have the overload clutch in our engines. Am I correct in this conclusion?

Hugh Check the part# stamped on top of the gear box. # 996605 will not have a factory installed clutch. # 887280 will have a factory installed clutch. If you have neither of these #s call Lockwood with the six digit # you have. they will be able to tell you exactly what is inside your gear box. Bill S.

Hi! Hugh
I have a 914 which is the turbo version. However I had to order the slip clutch and heavy duty starter on the options list when the engine was ordered.
I may say the engine starts with one single dab on the start button, none of the rocking and shuddering I’ve noticed with others. Similarly on shut down it is a complete none event. Of course the slipper clutch if set right is a crank shaft protector in the event of prop strike.

Hugh,
I know that the 912UL standard engines does NOT have the "slipper/
overload clutch" and a 2.273:1 reduction ratio. The 912ULS comes
standard with the clutch and 2.43:1 reduction gear set. Both the
clutch and 2.43:1 gear set are options for the 912UL independently of
each other.
