Another fine Zenith aircraft took to the sky at 7:30 AM local this morning. N701RR came to life and flew two complete circuits. What a surprise! Now the panels come off for a look-see. BTW..she's a Zenith 701 with slats Vs VGs, auto conversion Geo Metro 1.3L with IVO inflight adjustable prop, avionics master switch, and..GULP, I did use green Scotchbrite???

Special thanks to all the folks at Zenith then all my peeps that gave me support and help along the way: First to my WIFE, then Tommy Walker, Randy Fortune, Jon Croke, Mark-ZodieRocket, Larry McFarland. (I've been watching NASCAR too much!)

Rick , Congratulations, Big Time! For those of you who have not followed Rick and his adventure over the last couple of years may just wish to visit his website. www.n701rr.com

Rick has endure some trials and tribulations that most of us will never see, his building project has been sidetracked to help out after Katrina, move to a different state and a new job. Designing a whole new FWF package for the Geo installation. Plus many road blocks dealing with a new style of installation of said engine.

All in all Rick has triumphed more then most of us to get his Purple CH701 in the Air. Rick Congratulations is not only for your first flight but for having the fortitude to continue on a path that few have truly managed to travel. The spirit of the homebuilder is truly a spark generated by Rick..

Congratulations Rick great news! How long was the journey to get to today's success? The feeling
must be phenomenal. Every time I here another 701 gets in the air it motivates me to get out there
and start working on mine.

Congratulations Rick!
So pleased to hear you've flown. The Geo would seem an excellent
application for the 701.
Do be sure to add pictures of your bird one day soon.
Very anxious to hear the data and economy of that engine too.
Super!

Rick,

Congratulations on your first flight. How does that Geo engine work with the 701?

A " VERY" big congrats to you. Another auto engine conversion hits the skies... As for the NASCAR thing, that is a perfectly good excuse to use when the plane takes a little longer to complete. I get to listen to NASCAR everytime I fly. That's almost better then sex... Almost. ! Don't forget to practice safe stoling.. <G>

Hi Kevin,

No its not. It's a Jabiru cowl for their 701 with about a foot wacked off the back. My painter then molded on a blister for the Sidewinder oil pan. and glued on the top NACA inlet. The spinner is from Cummins. Fits like a glove!

Well it looks very good! I emailed Raven yesterday and I'm going to call tomorrow, as I'm still not sure what type of engine is going on this thing. Yours is the 90 hp 1300? Any comments on performance. Raven seems to be pushing the turbo one, but the extra weight seems, well extra.
