I've seen a post or two where folks are contemplating modifying their nose gear fork by trimming off the bottom and re-welding the joints. If the fork is re-welded then don't forget that it will have to be heat treated again, as it was originally. The material is 6061 aluminum.

As an aside, I'm planning to build a whole new fork to accommodate a 5.00 x 5 wheel and tire and will need to find a shop where the welding AND heat treating can be done.
