Netters,
Someone, (I think his name was Richard.) on this forum asked me to describe how I changed my canopy latching system from the original Zenith design. I am still trying to figure out why I lost everything in my incoming mail but I did so for whoever that was, here is the information you ask for.

Richard,
Of course I can, that's what this forum is all about. From picture #1, look closely and you will see I had to make a space in the side covering for the oak block. Also the block must be cut in such a was as to fit the inside surface of the fuselage yet come up to the level of the flange where the canopy comes down. The upper block is just a block and requires no fitting however it must be thick enough where both surfaces match (drawing below) In picture #3 the ring in the bottom of the lower latch is clear. Be sure to buy the latches with the ring. In picture #4 the safety pin is clearly seen, this is to insert in the ring after the latch is latched to prevent opening. The safety pin is just a large nail sawed off, one end flatted out and a hole for the string drilled in it. After the two blocks are installed, the next step is to power sand the two surfaces with the canopy closed so that the two surfaces match.

Hi Robert,

I will be honest and direct with you.

I think your installation for canopy could be secure but very uncomfortable for yours passengers at the level of the shoulder and under certain badly circumstances, like an hard landing or incident of that kind could injure your passengers.

Chris

Christian,
I have flown a good many hours with the canopy system shown in my e-mail and also carried some 20 plus passengers and have yet to hear any complaints.
