Folks,

This will also go out in internal RPA Ecom,

We just reviewed the current layout of RPA Formation Checkpilots. While the SouthCentral and Northcentral (SC/NC) region is extensive in area, there are some 7 check pilots located there - many are airline pilots with considerable mobility.

What is always needed is members to organize the training events - this process is very "grass roots" and need not be a major production. If you email/call local flight leads/instructors and a regional check pilot with the dates, and you have other member-students who would like to participate, the game is on!

Some hints:

1. Deconflict with other nearby RPA regional clinics and download the ICAS (google it) airshow schedule and try to avoid putting a weekend clinic on the same weekend as a local airshow in your area...

2. Email admin(at)flyredstar.org (admin(at)flyredstar.org) that you would like to put out a regional or member wide ecom asking if others in your area would like to see a weekend clinic. RPA will publish it for you. You can also call local pilots you know - once you have identified a "need" (multiple students), it's time to settle on a date and move forward...RPA can put out followon ecoms to generate more attendance from local members in need - this is a critical action...

3. Visit flyredstar and click in to "Events" section for useful information and forms if needed. Once again, a 3 day clinic need not be a major planning effort...

4. If your clinic has an identified attendance, RPA will "seed fund" your planning costs so you spend basically zero out of pocket for such things as printing, water, catering, etc. Simply contact the RPA treasurer.

Only about 32% of RPA members by region are formation (FAST) qualified, this means that the potential need will always be there for additional training opportunities. One major issue is the high fuel costs - this is another reason that smaller, more local training clinics may be the way of the future to reduce travel costs for us all.

I've seen recent annual clinics canceled and a few reasons include; lack of effective marketing - with those fuel costs, members have to have a solid reason to spend the transit fuel today. Dates that conflict with local/regional airshows, and locations that are inadequate for the type of operation intended.

Hope this helps, if you have 5 members in need, you have the workings and volunteer help for a weekend clinic...

Sincererely,

Drew
RPA
