Guy,
Do you have any of those Pennzoil "Fas Lube" oil changing places in your
area? I ordered a case through them. They got it from their local supplier.

Huh? Great tactful first post! Perhaps it would be better if this poster was to enlighten us all by telling us all why he thinks that Pennzoil--the oil recommended by Rotax--is crap? Also, could we see some documentation that indicates Golden Spectro is better than Pennzoil? A controlled comparison test of some sort, perhaps? Anything?

Good morning all,
I am having a heck of a time getting the Pennzoil 2-stroke
air cooled oil. The best price I've been able to get was $40/case of
24 pints + $10 shipping at oil-store.com. I was also told by a
Pennzoil distributor that the 16oz. has been discontinued and that
sooner or later I'll have to use 8oz. bottles, with the attendant
higher price and waste. Therefore, would anyone care to recommend a

Dave, Thanks for the advice. One reason I use the syntehic AMSOIL is that it burns very very clean, no carbon buildup. I have had no problem with cranks on the 2 stroke motorcycles that didn't run while sitting all winter over the years. I do not live in the desert. Is there something different about the Rotax 582? If the synthetic does not protect the crank adequately durning periods of inactivity, then I'd rather change plugs than cranks. Thanks Again

Pat I have over 35 year with 2 strokes and have used synthetic in some applications ie exhaust valv racing etc. There is no question that some synthetics do a great job providing lubrication.

But they do not provide the corrosion protection you get with mineral oil.
If you use you engine several time s a week and/or live in the desert or a very dry climate you might do better than others.

What is the advantage of Amsoil or any synthetic ? We use mostly Bombardier XPS here for injected engines and rotax pre mix for pre mix.
just make sure it is API tc rated and if you insist on synthetics then when not in use you better buy some fogging oil or someone will be selling you a crank .

Thousands of Rotax cranks are sold annually , why ?
Alot of bearing failures stem from corrosion. Imagine any roller or Ball bearing with a bit of rust on it not to mention the races of the bearing then spin them at 6000 rpm and see how long that galled bearing endures the not so smooth ride. Yes failure imminent.

Hi Guy,

All of us 2-cyc drivers know that snake oil has fewer opinions going for it than 2-cyc oil.. . . That having been said, for the first 100 hours on my 532, I used AV-2 (from CPS) and then did a"top" overhaul - the rings were stuck. I knew that Rotax used to recommend Pennzoil, don't know if they still do. But back then, that was enough for me. So I switched to Pennzoil 4130. After 200 hours more, no stuck rings. As we know that 4130 oil has been renumbered and put into 8-oz bottles. That's ok by me - rings are doing much better, even with smaller bottles. But the gas I use, the kind of flying I do, my B gearbox as opposed to your C box, the 582 vs. the 532, my GSC prop vs your Warp, my warm-up procedures, etc., are all different from yours. I just know that I would not make an experiment out of 2-cyc oil for the inconvenience of a smaller bottle size.

Best regards,
Mike Perkins
