I recently added a $200 Garmin GPS unit to one of my trucks. Model Garmin 200W (W=Widescreen)
Today I received a promotional email describing the Gamin 250W which is still considered a “budget” GPS with an Street Price of $279.00
In looking at the specifics of this unit I noticed the receiver is described as:
Receiver: high-sensitivity WAAS-enabled GPS receiver
Now how much was the WAAS upgrade on the Garmin 430’s & 530’s again?

Aviation is the main operative word here, of course, but there is also the database and added functionality of the W version of the 430 and 530 to include the vertical navigation information that the standard versions didn't have. Oh, and the upgrade to an old unit is now $3K. OUCH!

I use a bluetooth 20 channel WAAS/EGNOS GPS receiver with my PDA
running Anywhere map. The GPS cost me around $90. Normally sees 8-12
satellites with under 2 meter position uncertainty. Generally within
10-20 ft of field elevation at my airport. Of course only for
entertainment value flying, not approved for anything.
