Due to rust popping through the old paint on a project I just picked
up, I'm going to strip the fabric, and start from scratch. I
just stopped by a local paint store, and they offer a 2-part epoxy
primer: Transtar 2K epoxy. Does anyone have any opionion one way
or the other on using this product? I will be using the stits poly
process for covering - I'm already familiar with it, and have quite
a bit of extra left over from a previous project.

Thanks,

-Jack

Jack, I would want to make sure it is compatible with the Poly Fiber materials before using it. Thats a lot of work, not to mention the expense, if there may be adhesion problems down the road.

Jack, Opinion only since I have no experience with the brand you are talking about, but I used a 2 part automotive primeer to prime bare spots on my frame. It appears that almost any 2 part epoxy primer is impervious to MEK based paint. I have glued over the 2 part I used successfully.

Is there Zinc chromate in that epoxy? With 4130 I'd stick to something with
zinc chromate in it.
