I know some have gone that route but with only 950 GTW on my model 2, weight is critical. Muff and scat tubing are pretty light, I think, compared to radiator, fan, wiring, switch, hoses, clamps, mounting hardware, controls and extra coolant. Maybe I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

Get a Fiero heater core, $30 on e-bay, a Radio Shack computer cooling fan, $15 (they are 12 volt), mount and plumb it. Forget about heater muffs. They are for aircooled engines. You have hot water, It is a better method of heating, use it.

I'd buy a set too Leni, if the price isn't too steep. I'd rather be flying than building skis. But first I need cabin heat. How about manufacturing a heat muff assembly for the 582?

I'd be interested, but I'd be hard pressed put a price on what I'd
pay. When I think about parting with dollars, I start thinking about
what fun it'd be to build. But if you get some offers and start to
manufacture, let it be known and maybe the price would cause me to
rethink my frugalness.

I just did some checking on those skis. The look great and
apparently worked killer on a kit fox, but were never offered to
the public. Only one set was ever produced, they were shown to see
what kind of interest would be generated.
I would like to know if anyone on the list would buy a set and if
so, what would you realistically be willing to spend for them. It
may be worth it to get the molds and put them into production as
right now it is a pretty much build your own for our size planes.
Let me know if there is any interest.

Marco, You are right on the weight being less on the heat muff vs heater core set up. I will let you know how the water heater works next winter when I get mine up and running.

Weight is about the same... Not that much extra coolant. Heater core less than a couple of pounds extra plumbing fan and controls again less than a two pounds. Biggest consideration to me is no carbon monoxide from a leaky muff. I’ve seen firsthand the effects of minor carbon monoxide poisoning from a leaky muff and a bad detector.
Scrap yard will get you a small heater core less than $10.00.

If you fly in the winter at the temps we do, the heater core WILL NOT produce enough to keep the windshield clear. I did not get cold as I had on my full snow machining gear but not having forward vis was a little problematic. They have been running heat muffs since the beginning of time in cubs etc. I will take my chances with that and continue to enjoy flying year round.
