Gentlemen,
Since you have both owned up to advanced 'history' and many hours'
work, allow me to join you. I'll be 80 next year and have 4200 hours in the
log - and some to go.
So, perhaps we should form a select group of either superior
experience or protracted stupidity.... I think it's a toss-up. In any event,
I hate to see anyone throw in the towel, particularly when it sends me such
a pointed hint.
Hold the line, steady the Buffs, don't flinch - what else is there?
Happy Days, whatever the outcome...............

Ferg and all,
Because i am still very young at almost 65 and only have 295 h, and managed to finish the build in 3½ years( rush job jep), i do not really qualify for the superior experience group. However, there have been many days that i have been afraid that the build time might stretch out according to the pattern described. Therefore i have asked for and received help. Amongst others, locals, Graham has been working with me, and although it was only a week, it probably brought me a year forwards.
Would it be possible for the slow builders to ask for help? After all, it's a kit, not a "own" design. The original builder would be still "the" builder even if he only supervises part of the build. If help would be acceptable, i know that there are lots of folks ready to get involved in something as interesting as building an airplane, for free. We were willing to pay quite a sum of money for that pleasure. I know it's quite a move to accept the idea that the kid from around the corner is touching your delicate airplane parts, but i am also convinced that your superiority and
authority will keep things in check. Once in a while it might be a good idea to get another builder to assist. The result will be that things get moving, and increase your own effectivness as well. And honestly, it's worth to finish and fly it. It's a wonderful bird to build, it's even better to fly it.
Should we (or the club) start to collect a list of persons willing to assist, much like the the list of available test pilots?

Well I dont qualify at all , at only 36, but I think if you are serious and
keep your head down, and turn the dammed TV off one
night a week then you will be flying before you know it. Seems a shame to
put so much of your life into something you love, only then
to say NO MORE, when you would be exceedingly glad to pressed on when she
takes to the air. I started in august 07 and am about half way
done, I spend one day a week, and one or two nights after work working on
her
regards and good building

Ferg and Craig,
Thanks for the encouragement but not having flown as P1 for a while, I've decided it would
be nice to sit back with a beer and watch others do the aviating. I'm sure you are enjoying your
build as much as I have. The satisfaction of producing a Europa component as near perfect as
possible is something few outside our circle experience.
Josok,
On occasion a builder has to proceed carefully and think things through if he is using a
technique or material that is new to him, but that is the quickest way of learning. I've also
found that you need plenty of preparation, dry runs and memorised steps if something like a
complex layup needs to be completed quickly without errors - that is where the hours go.
Sincerely, Gerry

here's a thought, if you no longer want to own your bird, maybe sell a half
share, that being the engine etc
to get her flying, and even if you dont have your licence any more you could
get your other share holder to
take you for a spin, just mind you dont spill your beer
good luck in your future endeavors
