<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Folks,
I'm using the Ray Allen electric trim and their stick grips in my GlaStar. I'm using shielded two-conductor cable from the PTT switch to the intercom. I need to splice that cable and originally used Bob's soldered lap splicing technique but kept the exposed wires very short to be able to replace the shield. Long story short -- one of the wires shorted to the shield so I had a "stuck mic".
My specific question is: what's the best way to replace the shield after splicing shielded wire? To do it right this time, I'll have to expose about 2" - 3" of each wire.
Best regards,
Bob

There is no electronic value in having this wire be
shielded. Therefore, no value in attempting to maintain
shield integrity in a splice. Prepare the end as shown
here:

and splice onto the ends. Cover joints with heat shrink.
You can use a twisted pair of 22AWG wires to extend the
shielded conductor.
