I wonder what the weight gain or loss is on installing a grove gear on a Kitfox III.

Good question. I tried finding out informatin like that at Skystar and couldn't get it. Here is what I have.
I have a Model IV-1200 912 ULS
800-6 aircraft tires. Weight gain after installing spring gear (Hammerhead) 13.5 lbs, arm 1.875 inches. Should be close to what you are asking. I removed all the parts, weighed them and calulated the difference.

That's about what I needed. I presume that weight is just the difference between the stock gear and the Grove and doesn't take into account any other hardware. I don't want to have to weigh and balance the plane from scratch though I probably should. I bought my Kitfox III a couple weeks ago and I wouldn't swear to the logbook. Grove gear was already installed though I could find nothing in the W&B but the mod was entered into the logbook.

If you are unsure I would weigh it. It will take less then 30 min and there are a # of spreadsheets out there that will do the calculations for you. If you do not have scales you can ask around and find some. A good place to start is you local EAA chapter. If you are near Kansas city chapter 612 has a set that they loan out.

I took all the parts off and weighed them. Then reassembled them and figured the new moment. Clint
