Hi:
First time I try to contact this list.
Question is I do not get any confirmation on my EIS, on rpm drop. when
applying Carb Heat.
I have checked with other rv onwners, they do not understand why?
We check every thing...looks OK..
It is standard RV6A....I have checked when taxing,, after temp is hot..
also during flying...on the pattern, nothing...
My friend with same RV6a, gets 50 RPM drop even when taxing...
He does not have EIS.. has regular gauges..
Any Suggestions, comments appreciated

I had the same problem when I started flying. Changed to a better Carb Heater than the original and restricted the opening a bit, then I got a drop. Drop me a line and I will send a photo of what I have on Cappy's Toy.

I do not get a dramatic drop either, maybe 10 degrees at an altitude of 3-5000 feet, but not on the ground.
Have you checked your carb temp while applying heat?

I have about a 20 rpm drop during run-up per the EIS. I have the bigger
heat muff. I think of it more as an alternate air source than carb heat.

I've got Vetterman's good carb heat muff and a flange mounted
directly to FAB (no gap as in plans) and I don't get any drop on my EIS.
Like Larry said, I view it more as an alternate air source than carb
heat.

I have an EIS and a large heat muff for my carb heat. I get a little drop in
rpm, but about 2" drop in MAP. I agree that your experience is normal for
RVs.

"...carb heat muff and a flange mounted directly to FAB (no gap as in plans)
Robert, does this allow for full air flow at wide open throttle?

that's a good question, one that I'm not sure I know the answer to. I
set the carb heat up like this after a long conversation with Larry
Vetterman, but I don't think I've ever pulled carb heat at full
throttle. I'm going flying today and will give it a try and report back.
BTW Larry V said that I'd get 50 rpm drop with this setup but I
haven't seen anything on the ground, maybe a little with some altitude.

after a brief flight today I'd have to say no to your question. I
didn't pull carb heat at full throttle, but I tried it at 25/25 (3000
msl) and watched the MAP fall to about 24.4 on the GRT EIS. Of course
with the constant speed prop there was no rpm change. I guess a fixed
pitch prop would have shown an rpm drop.
I don't know how big a deal it is to lose 0.6 in. of MAP. The engine
didn't miss a beat and the plane was still climbing nicely. I hope
this info helps.
