Larry Burruss and I flew our RV-6's (Veggie Tale Squadron) to Stormy's wonderful 2008 fly-in BBQ.
It was good to see old friends and make new one. Especially to meet people I only had read about
or emailed. I think we were the last to arrive and almost the last to leave, by air.
Stormy even took his 6A out and flew overhead with some nice rolls added for fun!
I tried to take some pictures although I missed all the inside goodies and the actually GRILLING.
I'm pretty sure Stormy hired a staff to do the cooking as it was wonderful and I never saw Stormy
around the grill as he was the perfect host! Thanks Stormy!!
Looking forward to next year!
Enjoy the Picasa link to the pictures.

Thanks, Bob. I had lots of good help from family and church friends as in years past, but this year I actually took part in the grilling operation. I was about halfway done with BBQ duties when Pam and Larry Bowen arrived in 910LL, and handed the ops over to my daughter's boyfriend Jason shortly after, but not before pulling the bag of chicken necks out of the meat locker and using half our BBQ sauce just on them! First time for me, grilling freshly-cut chickens form the local meat market, and I was expecting to receive just breasts, thighs, drumsticks, wings - not gibblets and necks thrown in, so I thought I was cooking extra-long, skinny chicken legs at first. Did I mention I washed-out of the Boy Scouts and failed anatomy in med school? You missed the aroma of grilling chicken smoking on the grill, but it was mouth-watering, as the Bowens can attest.

Glad I came across as the perfect host, but not sure how I pulled that off. Of course, having Miriam drive up halfway through the party in her Miata, top-down (the car, I mean) and waving to the admiring crowd, was a nice theatrical touch. And "Woody," the hot dog roaster, was a perennial hit with everyone except my Mom Wink

And to Mrs. Stormy (aka Miriam) without whom I’m sure the event would not be possible! J

To Bill and Miriam,

Thank you for a enjoyable day. It is always a pleasure to see you two and your wonderful spot in the mountains. Thane States, RV-10 builder nearly ready for his first flight, joined me for his first visit to Hop-A-Long and the warm hospitality. He liked the taste of the BBQ and the camaraderie of the Southeast RV group.

Bob,

The LED position and strobe lights I have on the -9 can be purchased from Skybright. At the time they sold the set w/o the white tail light but the circuit board was the same as they now sell. I simply cut the unused portion of the circuit board off using a band saw. Unfortunately they didn’t include the cover shown on the complete unit.

If I were to do it today, I would still buy the unit, cut the white LED’s off, and cut the plastic cover to fit just over the position lights and install them the same way as you see in that picture you took.

The other question I had was regarding my lettering, which were done using the DecalPro system. I really like the results as I have a textured panel and plastic labels won’t stick to it. The only downside is, there is a steep learning curve to the system.

Bill
