Hi Bobby,
I may catch a bit of flack, but the cable settings in the 601 series,
even though specs say 32, you'll find that a bit high after several
years because the
structure will keep giving and stretching. I'd recommend you hold it to
between 20 and 25 lbs to avoid the unnecessary wear on the rudder pivot
bearings and
bending at the bellcrank mounts. It won't change the way your aircraft
flies at all.

One aircraft has 49+ hrs and one has 65+ hrs. we documented the original tension at 32#. we just reset the tension with the same Tensiometer back to 32 lbs for both aircraft. be sure to put it on your check list.

Hi,

In a recent message it was reported that retensioning of cables was
necessary after one year. That is odd and should not happen.

For the rudder cables of the tricycle versions,
such retensioning should be done with caution. The reason is the bungee
chord of the nosegear.
When the plane is on the ground, then the nosegear pushes up the bungee
and thus the tubes to which the the steering rods are attached,
are not at the stop.
Now the tension of the rudder cables is maximum when these tubes are
at the stop, and full tension is
imposed only when the plane is in the air. This fact mandates that the
tension of rudder cables is measured only when the nosegear is unloaded,
say using a jack,
and thus the situation in flight is simulated. Otherwise the cable
tension in flight may be excessive.

As for my plane, after 12 years, we have never retensioned the cables.
