On every other dual carb Rotax that I have ever seen, the vent hose has always been a single tube connected to each carb with a few holes in the bottom. I was looking at the set-up on my 582 while synchronizing the carbs, and on my aircraft the two inside vent ports have a very short hose that is connecting the two carbs, and then the two outside ports have long tubes that run down the firewall to the bottom of the cowling. I assume this is to keep any fuel overflow from hitting the exhaust, but seems a little different to me. Is this a common installation, or just something that the original builder dreamed up? Any issues with linking the two carbs together like that?

Ryan,
Could your engine have had the Greensky Adventures HACman system installed at one time? If so, those 2 long vent lines would have been "T'd" together and then passed thru the firewall to the HACman controller.

As Marco said, this looks like a partial HACman setup. It could also
be someone's bright idea to get the vent out of the engine
compartment to avoid fire danger. Unfortunately I'm told it's a bad
idea, as it can change the relative pressure between the intake
manifold and the float chamber, the pressure differential that
controls mixture. Rotax has very specific instructions not to change
the vent lines for this reason. The HACman system changes it based on
extensive testing and the ability to manually adjust the mixture.

You most definitely do not want to make those vent lines long or route them out of the engine compartment ! I know of one case where the builder ran the carburetor vent lines out the bottom of the plane. The engine wanted to quit on climbout everytime he started to gain some airspeed, not a good thing to have happen on a first flight. It almost ended in disaster.
