|
|
I have a few questions regarding the 601XL fuel system:
§ Photo Assembly Guide page 6-K-1b references VDO fuel gauge P/N 301-020, and explains how to connect the wiring from the sender unit to the gauge. Are these gauges supposed to be part of the kit, (I cannot find them and do not see them listed in the kit packing list)?
§ Is it more reliable to run the fuel tank and fuel sender ground wires directly to the ground buss vs. grounding them to the airframe, (I am priming all faying surfaces so I am concerned about a poor ground)?
§ Does anyone know if the VDO fuel senders will work for anything other than the VDO fuel gauges? Will they work with any EIS systems?
Thanks,
Dave Van Lanen

Hi Dave,
My fuel kit included the VDO senders. If you didn't get them you should contact ZAC for further information. (you might check your packing list first . . . )
I think the best way to deal with the ground question is to run a wire from the center portion of the sender to the wing metal. You also need to ground the tank. This should not present a noise problem since the sender is very low power and doesn't change quickly.
You can use the VDO sender with nearly any indicator. There are several different specifications for the signals from fuel senders. You just need to match the resistance and direction of change in resistance from the sender to the indicator. I suspect any EIS can be programmed for any sender arrangement. If you use "Steam" gauges you need to choose the proper specification from a list of similar gauges.
Good luck,
Paul

The Senders come with the kit, the guages don't as Zenith don't know what type of panel you have ie Glass does not need the VDO guages.. I got mine from the USA.. do a google search for the part numbers..
Watch out for the correct Ohms.. They are matched VW senders..

Dave--
Fuel guages are not part of kit. You'll have to buy analog ones or use an EIS.
The grounding C so long as it is secured properly C is just as good to airframe as to the ground buzz.
The VDO senders will drive EIS or analog guages
