Elbie,
You have me! I admit I was unaware of your product and let me
apologise. If I ask you here, perhaps it won't appear to be advertising since
you were questioned. Ferg Kyle
No offense taken Ferg!
I have never produced an AOA with a needle & Dial, though did some experimenting with them for many years, from the late 60's to '91 prior to going to LEDs I attended Sun N Fun , Oshkosh, Arlington having a booth and giving forums from about 96 to '05 and finally decided the shows were so expensive that unless I really raised the price of my product it wasn't worth the cost & effort. Not that I didnt' like going to the shows, but the reality crept in that it wasn't helping the bottom line any. I have advertised in the Sport Aviation and Experimenter for well over 10 years, could be that isn't very productive either Smile
Our "Poor Mans HUD" is basically just that we use Ultra bright LED's, bury under the glare shield, and angle so the LED's are reflected on the windscreen, works just as good as the multi thousand dollar system. Think of it, anything you lay on the panel reflects ~~ right where you want to look!  All you see in the windscreen is a little series of colored dots, all 3 green you are on speed, amber slow, red stall warning.
Will answer other questions off line, don't want to interfere with the main purpose of these lists, helping the builder This can be refined with a short tube to make the light more intense and sharply defined.
I'm still striving to give the best safety product at the lowest price.
Elbie

Elbie
just a though, sure, shows are expensive but it is cheaper for you that
all your customers visit you at a show than you go and visit them Wink
I'm impressed with your description of the "poor man's HUD" btw

If you are interested in superbright LED for this or Nav lights/strobes
might i suggest "light of victory" on ebay they have a good range
of different angle superbright LED. I have made my strobes from a 3x3
array of leds and it measures at over 1000cd per pulse across a 180 degree
spread
and about 1500cd in the horizontal plain
