Hi folks ... I just finished gluing my canopy this last weekend (and I
am -very- pleased with the results). I want to do some touchup where the
Sika primer didn't really make a nice clean/crisp line against the masking
tape. I just need to remask and go in with a small amount of black paint,
and need to know what is safe to use with the plexi. I guess it needs to
work safely with the Sika primer as well.
Anyone got any suggestions? I've gotten suggestions from other forums, but
thought I'd ask here as well. Thanks!

Dwight, the folks at Airplane Plastics (Vans supplier) told me that Krylon
or Rustoleum is fine. BUT NEVER use anything like lacquer thinners, acetone,
etc to clean prior to painting. They also told me to clean it with 70%
isopropyl alcohol from the local Walgreens and that has worked well for me
on light glues and Sharpie marks. I used some flat black Krylon on the back
tail of my canopy just to cover up the glue/rivet lines and it seems to have
adhered well and caused no issues. Scuffed it, wiped with alcohol, painted
it. Don't know about the Sika.
Suggest you call them directly if in doubt, their number is 937-669-2677,
you'll feel better if you call

Dwight & Bill:
Bill is very correct in telling you to use isopropyl alcohol to clean the area where you be painting.
One caveat about using alcohol on thermo formed acrylic is don't use it to clean the rest of the surface. It is tempting to use it since it does a good job, but I have found that it will eventually will cause grazing in the canopy. It has to do with the stresses caused by the thermo forming.
I have found Brillianize to be a good cleaner that reduces static dust attraction and leaves a small bit of surface protection after it ragged off. But do not use it before painting, your paint won't stick to it.
