Hey Lightning fans,
I have been fighting wheel shimmy for quite a while on N59JL; the shimmy would start at about 18 kts ground speed. I changed to highest grade Goodyear tires, tried aluminum angle on the main gear legs to stiffen the legs, tack welded some shim stock around the axles, etc. Some of it helped but it seemed to deteriorate again recently. Today I took the tires/wheels to a local motorcycle shop to get the wheels balanced; he found that both wheels were out of balance requiring 3/4 oz weight on one side and 1/2 oz weight on the other. After adding the weights and reinstalling the tires, I did some taxi testing with great results. I taxied up to 36 kts GS and no shimmy. Hooray!
If you are experiencing shimmy, you might try this first.

Great info - sounds like something for a future "technical tips" section of the newsletter. Just one question, did you have them aired up to 35 psi?

Hi Jim,
on another subject, how difficult room wise was it to fit the Odyssey EFIS into the lightning. We are currently looking at fitting either the Odyssey or Voyager , we would prefer the 10.4" screen but am concerned that the caonopy hinge will touch the connectors at the back of the EFIS unit.

Well, if the Voyager was available, I would have used it. If you have the new panel, the Odyssey will not fit. It will in the old with some modification to the hoop.

Sounds good. When you order it from the guys in California, tell them that we talked about the Voyager, and that you are putting it in a Lightning…

I won't be ordering from California as I live in Australia and have already ordered a Voyager locally which will arrive in 3 weeks.
